The most beautiful church of Positano is the church of Our Lady of the Assumption, Santa Maria Assunta, situated in the heart of the town overlooking the beach.

Built in the 13th century, the church is beautifully glazed. In the apse there are the remains of ancient Byzantine mosaics. On the main altar there is a Byzantine altar-piece portraying a black Madonna with the Holy Child  dating from the 12th century.

The path from the centre of town to the church, between local shops and violet bougainvillea, creates an amazing entrance for the bride and groom.  Curious faces look on and await their arrival with happiness.
